The G7 countries at the summit in June should make a decision on the frozen assets of the Russian Federation. As Reuters reports, citing two officials from the G7 countries, in order to prevent future disagreements between Europe and the US, the States want to use the interest from the income of assets, instead of confiscating it. Why are these funds so important for Ukraine and why is Germany afraid that this could cause its assets to also be confiscated - find out in our news story.

The frozen assets generate 5 billion/year in interest so for the next 100 years Russia will have to pay.

What if the law were to say explicitly that it will not be retroactive? Also, it could be explicit about applying only in certain circumstances, such as the illegal invasion of another country?

As always, this will happen when it’s too late for Ukraine. Talk, talk, and more talk, and nothing concrete is done. This is the EU way of doing things.

It’s simpel…. There are a lot of not western countries.. and very rich people from different countries who have their money on banks in Europe.
If we take the frozen money from Russia and rich Russians… what do, by example people from the Middle East.. Azië.. think?
Are they scared for losing their money in Europe when there come political problems?
They can lose their trust and take their money away.. all in one time.. that will give financial problems.
I understand that.
But why aren’t we asking what those countries think about this.. in this situation.
Be open and honest we'll get it far with that😊
Or send troops to Ukraine.

5 may, we are celebrating our Liberation Day. Then the English, Americans and Canadians came to free us from the war. We are eternally grateful to them for that. That band is strong. Why don't we do the same for Ukraine?? For our that war lasted 5 years.. every day was too long.. how long should Ukraine wait for their liberation?

The case for donor countries to Ukraine being reimbursed from the frozen Russian funds is much greater than gifting the money to Ukraine.
